Scout

Scout is one of our newer horses at HorsePower, and he is here to help with our Therapeutic Driving program! Scout loves to hang out with his friends, especially Freebie, who is his best friend. He really enjoys watching everything that goes on here at the barn, and you can often find him watching people walk by at the corner of his dry lot. Scout enjoys pulling his cart, and really likes to go on drives outside to enjoy the fresh air and sun, so he can have a clear head to better plot ways he can bother his pasture mates. If you are looking for Scout, you can often find him munching on hay while people-watching, or taking a nap somewhere in the sun.

Arnold

Arnold may be a big guy, but really he is just a small teddy bear at heart. He is a very sensitive fellow who just tries his best and is always willing to learn. Arnold is a part of our Therapeutic Riding program here at HorsePower! He loves to be around people, and will often trot up to the gate or fenceline when he sees someone walking by who might be willing to give him some scratches and ask how his day has been. You have to watch out though, because one of Arnold’s favorite things to do is dribble a mouth full of water all over your clothes. He just wants everyone to stay hydrated! In lessons, Arnold can be playful with his volunteers, and sometimes needs to be gently reminded that he is in a lesson, and not outside playing with his best friend, Banjo the donkey!

Rosie

Rosie is one of the stars of our therapeutic riding program! She loves hanging out with people—especially if they’re brushing her or giving her lots of attention. Rosie is super smart… and just a little bit sneaky. If no one is watching, she might knock over a bucket just to see what happens, or even untie herself and go for a little walk! She always keeps us laughing with her silly tricks, and she reminds us that horses can be both helpful and full of
fun.

Pirate Will Turner

With one eye and a big heart, Pirate earned his name the pirate way — by embracing his unique look and swashbuckling spirit! Currently in our therapeutic riding program, Pirate is one of our most reliable horses. He always tries his best, even though he is working on building confidence since he lost sight in his right eye. Pirate loves a good neck scratch, hanging out with his best buddy Dunny, and munching grass like it’s buried treasure. He’s not a fan of alone time, but he’s always up for adventure with his herd. This one-eyed wonder is well on his way to becoming a trusted, loyal partner for our riders!

Freedom

Freedom, aka, Freebie, helps out in both our groundwork sessions and therapeutic riding program. She’s a gentle partner for riders and a loyal buddy to the other horses in the barn. Even though Freebie is calm, don’t let that fool you—she’s a fast walker who always seems to have somewhere important to go! She’s easy to spot because she has a tiny little tail nub, and usually wears a full fly suit to keep the flies away from her. It just makes her all the more special and unique. Freebie loves spending time with both her horse and human friends, and enjoys going on walks and adventures. Especially if there are treats involved!

Ellie Mae

Ellie is the office manager here at HorsePower, and while she may not answer the phones, she does take her job of floor-cleaning (via snack patrol) very seriously. Her core responsibilities include sunbathing, napping with great enthusiasm, and offering occasional judgmental stares to keep her coworkers in line. Ellie genuinely enjoys people—she just prefers to make the first move when it comes to saying hello. It’s all about greeting on her schedule (usually somewhere between nap #2 and snack #4). Feel free to say hi—but don’t be offended if she gives you a polite blink and circles back later. She’s not ignoring you… she’s just prioritizing

Banjo

Banjo is one of our newer residents at HorsePower, and he is here to help out with our groundwork sessions! Banjo loves to have his ears scratched, and will trot across the pasture if he sees someone who might be interested in giving him attention. Banjo loves to play, and is very smart. Sometimes he can be pushy about wanting attention, and tries to push you with his head if he feels like you aren’t adequately keeping him entertained. Banjo is a great alarm system, and will often bray a greeting whenever a new car arrives in the parking lot.

Do the Type of Walking Surface and the Horse Speed During Hippotherapy Modify the Dynamics of Sitting Postural Control In Children With Cerebral Palsy?

Hippotherapy is described as a rehabilitation method for postural control in children with cerebral palsy. Horse’s movements can be manipulated during hippotherapy’s sessions with horse walking on different surfaces and at different speeds. The purpose of this study was to assess if dynamic sitting postural control in children with cerebral palsy in hippotherapy is modified when surfaces (sand or asphalt) and horse’s walking speed (slow or faster) are changed.
