Program/Volunteer Coordinator

 Kimberly Shafer, Program/Volunteer Coordinator

Kim Cap

Kim serves as the Program Coordinator at HorsePower and has been with the organization since October 2022. She grew up in Hartford and graduated from West Central. After marrying her husband, Ben, who served in the Air Force, they moved to Wichita, Kansas. It was there that Kim first volunteered at a therapeutic riding center, sparking a passion for these programs that has stayed with her ever since.

Over the years, Kim has volunteered and worked at various therapeutic riding centers across the country. She also pursued education and worked as a Veterinary Technician, further deepening her knowledge of animal care. Her love for horses began at a young age while helping her aunt and uncle with their Percherons, an experience that continues to influence her work today.

In 2022, Kim and her husband moved back to South Dakota when he joined the South Dakota Air National Guard. Shortly after returning, she became part of the HorsePower team. In her free time, Kim enjoys camping with her extended family and photographing landscapes and nature.
